Best Alternative Auction sites to ebay

If your sick of expensive ebay fees, or ridiculous feedback rules, or your looking to expand your online business, then checkout some of the alternative options to make sales online.

Although Ebay remains the most popular site for selling and making money, if you list at all these other sites, then you can make more easily, and not have to rely on just one site for your income. Its also a great way to reach out to customer who are also sick of the run around they have had on ebay, with their expensive fees, and direction..

This is the most comprehensive list on the internet of alternatives to ebay.
Updated regularly, by a real seller who uses them.

Great Ebay Alternative selling sites

  1. ioffer.com - American Based Site, Huge Customer base, worldwide and Europe.
  2. webidz.com - Basic auction site, but has an ok customer base, and has been online for quite a few years.
  3. ebid.net - Recently had a revamp - and is looking good with the new purple suit on.
  4. CQOUT.com - Long running site, that is in bad need of a revamp, has a low customer base.
  5. Bonanza.com - Proving to be the fastest and BEST growing auction site. For many strange reasons. (was bonanzle) Great site for social selling on facebook and twitter.
  6. Wensy.com - Long running auction website, but very basic, and low number of users.
  7. AtomicMall.com - A futuristic looking site, with good payment features, but limited by number of users. Mostly USA customer base.
  8. USIFF.com - This isn't really an auction site as such, but you can list your items on it. Its more a price comparison directory, and costs are expensive to list your items.
  9. Amazon.com - The Giant Of Online Selling
  10. Etsy.com - Becoming quite a popular site, with easy to use features, and continuous community development. This site is geared towards home made crafts and smaller sellers.
  11. taobao.com - Force to be reckoned with, this is a super ebay in China, but you will need to read and speak Chinese.

Terrible ebay alternative Sites to sell on:

  1. wigix.com - This is a great potential site that just suddenly stopped dead in the water. Avoid.
  2. Get it or Sell it.com - This is down, never to return, which is a shame, this really was an ebay killer.
  3. Shopit.com - Another great concept selling site, they have less than 10 dvd's for sale in total. That sort of just describes the whole site.
  4. BlueJay.com - This auction site has closed down.
  5. OnlineAuctions.com - This auction site has closed down, it was looking good.

ioffer.com

Ioffer.com is a fixed price site, and a great alternative to ebay.

Here you can make an offer in the hope that the seller will accept, along with just purchasing items at the fixed price option. It has a slightly less organised feel to it than ebay, but it works well on this site, as there is lots of things to be found. For more info Click this ioffer guide.

Communication

This is great if your a seller, as the site really promotes interaction, and communication between buyers & sellers is shown as a pop up on your screen instantly, so communication is fast & easy.

Fees

The listing fees are 0.
The final selling fees are very cheap.

How to Sell

Great features here include, bulk uploading via .csv spreadsheet. You can also upload listings via an SMS text message, with a picture.

User Base

Very Large amount of American, and also European.

Design

Very Clean layout, and if your looking for an ebay alternative that still has a nice clean layout then this is it. The site is easy to navigate, and your seller options are all easily accessed from the menu that has big icons. Much better than the alternative ebay text links.

Cool Features

There is a constant activity stream showing on the homepage, where each item, & bid show up for a moment, before disappearing to make room for the next few updates.

You can tweet or add to most social networks direct from the page of any auctions.
Unlike ebay that has no such features.

You are notified that your data feed is available to download & then import to Froogle.

Difficulties

The Currency of the site is dollars only. You can still buy & sell in other currency's, but you obviously have to be aware of the exchange rates.

Payments

Google payment is accepted & also paypal. Along with the new amazon payments, if your American.

Amazon

www.amazon.com

This is one of the giants of online commerce.

Amazon is a catalogue of existing products & details, that you can easily take advantage off to quickly list products, choosing your quantity, and specific description, and selling in their marketplace. This is integrated to look professionally part of amazon, and is very popular amongst buyers. They enjoy the professional & secure setup that Amazon maintains.
For more detailed information about amazon click here

You can also upload new products into the amazon catalogue, which is very good,

Although rather than an auction site, Amazon is all fixed price.

The fees are quite expensive, but you can list as much as you want without paying, and you only pay fees once an item sells.

The fees are taken straight from the item selling price, so you never have any big bills at the end of the month. You can reduce your fees if you subscribe to a power seller programme for a monthly fee. If your a large seller this is very much worth it.

Communication

Easy communication through the main admin panel of your amazon account.
Email address are encrypted.

Fees

The listing fees are 0.
The final selling fees are quite expensive.
Power seller programme has £30 monthly payment.

How to Sell

One of the best features is amazon CSV upload. You can upload really any size of csv file for your stock. Amazon can load in large csv files while is better than some ebay alternative sites, you have to split your csv file into smaller pieces.

User Base

Very Large, worldwide.

Design

Very organised layout, shaped around users buying habits.

Cool Features

Amazon has one of the highest rankings in online search, along with the user preferred buying choices. This is great, on every page of a purchase there is a list of a few % statistics including what % of people who viewed this item bought it, and what % bought something else.

Difficulties

Strict following to amazon policy.

Payments

Are handled directly by amazon. You only ever receive your money after your item fees have been deducted. You receive a payment into your bank account ever 24 hours for market place sellers. Power sellers must wait 14 days for amazon payments.

236156 Users (19/4/10)

Bonanzle is currently growing at a rate of over 11 Thousand New members a month.

It doesn't cost anything to open a store at bonanzle, but you are limited to 10 thusand items in your store. No worries your aloud to open multiple stores, and encouraged to differentiate them.

There is also a great feature that the site is unique for, you select a time you want to have you store in a bonanzle, and as long as you are online at the time, your items are promoted heavily to front page. This Idea with Bonanzle is Great.

Overall Bonanzle is a superior selling platform to almost anything else, but does its slightly non serious approach mean it cant really be a professional platform?

The Votes at the top of this page point to head on Bonanzle and Amazon

Very large layout, easily to find what your looking for and tightly organised with a huge range of categories. There is the option for sellers to include html, so for lots of pages, there is good old style ebay graphics, where cool html banner scripts show up.

Cool Features

The Price is

Difficulties

Not enough people. Thats it, this is really one of the best websites out there as an alternative to ebay.

Payments

paypal is accepted and easily integrated into ebid. Along with Google checkout also.
There is another ebid affiliate payment option also, its called pppay.com.

Cqout logo
Cqout logo

CQout

www.Cqout.com

This is a very basic auction site, which is free to list on, and has a very clean interface. You do pay a final fee for selling but it is very small. There is the option to bulk upload items, however it is a very poor service. The admin staff actually complain if you bulk upload more than once, so you only really have one shot at your upload.

Also the payment withdrawal is an automatic once a month process if you use their in house securepay system. You can accept payments via other options however.

There is no web 2.0 features such as social networking integrated into this site.

Where is the 76 sites' list?

Anonymous 2 years ago

Oh ok, i just got it: the number next to the title is the number of hits... not the number of alternatives.....

I was going to say! 76 is quite a lot. I did come across a site that listed nearly that many but on closer inspection something like 80% had less than 3000 users, or was a classified ads, which are in a different hub coming soon!

Anyway these are the best ones, for the moment ;)

Great list. Good to get helpful lists like this together with some insightful comments/views on the sites. One thing that I've not seen much of is not so much the eBay alternatives (and there sure is a growing swell of eBay haters) but also eBay alternative selling models. The internet sure has fostered the ability to be creative

We have just launched the world’s first pay per bid auction marketplace. To date any pay per bid (penny auctions, lowest unique bid, reveal the price etc) site has only listed items themselves, not offered independent sellers access.

It’s called Exceet auctions and is located at http://exceet.com

Hate to come on here and plug our business but we think you’ll really appreciate an alternative selling marketplace to the traditional auction models. There’s tons of information on our site. So many of the complaints I read about we have as advantages on our site. Free unlimited listing, always getting paid, no shipping fees issues (included in the price), humans that want you to succeed, fair feedback, limited competition as we’re new, ability to earn above retail prices (given the pay per bid model) and much more. we’d love you to check us out. Thanks

Hi, I like your list but there is an additional niche alternative at ebay auction site. Ebay has a list of ~1400 items that are legal to own and transfer yet are banned on their site. If you try to list a vintage bear skin rug or an antique ivory bangle on Ebay you will discover you can't. Ealtbay.com allows these items, has free listing fees, very low final value fees, and does not require Paypal. It is an additional site to give a try.

benb 16 months ago

i seen a ebay alternative called www.swap-s.com they charge no final value fees , and no listing fees ,

they do charge for featured page listing @ 30 cent but they do give you 20 euro free for joining up added to your account ,

so u can list loads of featured items for free .

have a look at www.swap-s.com

I am fed-up of seeing all these ugly looking eBay clones popping up everywhere. If you want to try something different either go to Buzzmart.com or if you just want a shop addoway is another good one. Both are highly recommended.

Under the stewardship if CEO Donahue eBay is trying to change its core business from that of online auction, to a secondary market site like Amazon, with the auction being secondary. This is confirmed by the Feb 14,2011 article in FBN/WSJ. This represents an opportunity for eBay alternatives. Ealtbay is one of those alternatives, it caters to items that are perfectly legal to own and sell, but are banned on eBay. You can list those items on Ealtbay for free, pay very low final value fees, and accept payment in any legal form, not just PayPal and credit cards. Give www.Ealtbay.com a try.

William Lee 13 months ago

Ebay wants to be an Amazon clone, its online auction unit is being religated to step child status. This is why so many are upset with it.

If you are an seller, it is time to find another online auction, first as an eBay back-up, and ultimately as the primary eBay alternative when eBay succeeds in this site change. I use http://www.ealtbay.com Ealtbay, it is a less controlling, low fees site. Find one that works for you.

In the mean time the Class Action Suit, that has been started against it, will not change eBay practices, but the suit will cause them some anguish, and money, which will result in higher fees --leading more people to leave the site.

I hope Ebay goes down in flames! Have been highly disappointed with them since they began instigating changes. The little guy cannot survive with them. They are not for the little guy. They cater to buyers and are very unfair to sellers in general. Have tried to put up with them but cannot any longer. Have bid them farewell. Hope others will do the same!

This hub must be pretty old? I see that Ioffer.com is listed as the number 1 eBay alternative? I sold a little bit on Ioffer a few years back, and they were never really a true alternative to eBay .. but you could sell a few items. Nowadays Ioffer is dead .. the only real alternative to eBay is to market your good on your own website .. unless you can use Amazon .. depends on what you are selling

I've started up a site for buying and selling stuff. Buyers accounts are free. Sellers pay 1.50 (one-time) to list an item for sale. If you need something special not already in our site put it in our wishlist and when available, the site will email you.

We are also tired of unfairnes and ridiculous rules of ebay and other websites. Thats why we just started this new website that you can check out. No listing fees and the final selling fees are extremely cheap. Take a look and give it a try WWW.AUCTIONSHUNTER.COM

I think on most of the auction sites it really depends on the type of item you are selling. I myself currently sell on Ioffer and i have been getting atleast 7 sales a day. I purchase my products from a company call Usa Wholesales, you can visit the site at http://www.usawholesales.com and see the whole inventory

jerseys4kids.com profile image

jerseys4kids.com 5 weeks ago

That is very nice of you to share your supplier contact info with us Kevin. It seems very natural how an online seller would simply feel like telling everyone where he gets his products from .. lol ..

I don't suppose you are affiliated with this company ..?

Lisa Salter 4 weeks ago

Hi, you could also try http://www.adsere.com/ a new free classified ads site, simple to use and 100% free, no hidden costs! use video, pics and even audio in your ads - you can create your own selling groups/communities trading with like minded people making it a bit more trustworthy than other sites.
